Social Media that Tells your Story
Social Media Explained
Social Media is a method of engaging with different audiences across different platforms. Before the rise of Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest (and more to come) digital communication was limited to your website and email marketing. This was decidedly one-sided and made it difficult for the recipient to interact with a company or share information. As these new platforms evolved, buckets of people would interact regularly with one platform or another for entertainment and increasingly to interact with businesses. As the platforms grow, they begin to offer more information about their users in order to help businesses target their prospects and keep up with their existing audience. There are MANY valuable tools and methods available to take advantage of this.
Social Media Strategy
Many clients don’t buy in to all of the social media platforms, and we completely understand. There are many platforms that would appear unprofessional or silly. However, these platforms are becoming increasingly integrated with helping search engines decide how to rank your website, for instance.
Our usual strategies involve one of two levels of social media engagement. Most businesses use social media as a type of shoutbox to sent out announcements and specials. The strategies we’ve found to be successful involve a mix of education and entertainment, while telling a story. Each platform has different “language” of delivering content. Some are through articles, some through pictures and videos, etc. Recognizing this is a critical step. Delivering entertaining and educational content while encouraging your users to share engage is what it’s all about. Also, connecting with other companies and users while sharing their content is also an important component to a viable strategy. While larger firms use platforms like Twitter as an alternative customer service agent, most of our clients won’t need a community manager to monitor those sites full time. Having a solid strategy with regular, consistent engagement is a great start. Tracking those results and optimizing your strategy is how it can really work for your company.
Social Media Process
The first step is to ensure that all of your social media profiles are properly claimed, set up and branding is consistent.
